Filler FAQ: What You Really Want to Know (But Maybe Didn’t Know How to Ask)

Honest answers to the most common questions and fears about dermal filler — no pressure, no fluff.

I meet a lot of people who want to look more refreshed but aren't sure filler is the answer. Most of them walk in carrying the same worry: they've scrolled past the frozen foreheads and overfilled lips online, and they've quietly told themselves they don't want to look like that.

I don't want that for them either.

The honest truth is that filler can look completely natural — restorative, even — when it's done with restraint and a real understanding of the face. So I've put together straight answers to the questions and fears I hear most often, with nothing attached to them. No pressure, no agenda. Just the information I'd want if I were sitting where you are.

What filler actually is

Dermal fillers are gel-like substances injected beneath the skin to restore lost volume, soften lines, and support facial structure. I use hyaluronic acid, which is something your body already produces naturally — so the filler works with your skin rather than against it.

I think of it as scaffolding. Invisible support that lifts and restores, without altering the face you recognize as yours.

"I don't want to look fake. Is filler safe?"

This is the fear I hear most, and it's a fair one.

Done poorly or in excess, filler can distort natural features — that's real, and I won't pretend otherwise. Done thoughtfully, it restores harmony and softness without anyone being able to point to what you had done.

My approach is refreshed, not frozen. I rely on clinical training and an eye for proportion to guide every plan, and I'd rather do less than you expect than more than you need. No overfilling. No surprises.

"But I've seen so many bad results online..."

You have, and so have I. Here's what's usually behind them:

  • Too much product, placed too fast
  • A poor understanding of facial anatomy
  • Chasing trends instead of proportion

I'm not interested in viral results. I'm interested in lasting ones. I was trained by top injectors, and I build every plan around your face and how it's structured — not around whatever look is moving through Instagram this month.

Your face isn't an advertisement. It's your first impression and your reflection, and it deserves care that treats it that way.

What areas can filler improve?

Some of the areas I'm asked about most:

  • Cheeks — restoring mid-face lift and contour
  • Smile lines — softening the depth of nasolabial folds
  • Lips — refining or enhancing shape, not inflating it
  • Chin and jawline — defining balance in the lower face
  • Marionette lines — lifting the corners of the mouth

Every client gets a personalized assessment first. Often the area someone thinks is the problem isn't actually where filler is needed — which is exactly why I start with a conversation and a plan rather than a needle.

How much filler is actually used?

A lot less than most people picture.

Most hyaluronic acid fillers come in 1 mL syringes — about a fifth of a teaspoon. Depending on your goals and the area, a treatment might use:

  • Half to one syringe for lips
  • One to two syringes for cheeks or smile lines
  • About one syringe for a subtle chin or jawline enhancement

I take a conservative, layered approach. Filler isn't about flooding the face — it's about strategic placement and small adjustments that restore what's been lost. Done well, it isn't obvious. You simply look like yourself, more rested.

"Will I still look like me?"

Yes. That's the entire point.

I'm not here to make you into someone new. My whole philosophy is helping you look like yourself again — just less tired. Subtle, science-backed, and built around what age, stress, or gravity may have quietly taken.

If you've ever caught yourself thinking I look more tired than I actually feel, or heard are you upset? when you felt perfectly fine — that's the kind of thing filler can sometimes address. And it's exactly what I like to talk through before anything else.

How impactful is it, really?

When it's done well, filler can change how you feel about your face — not because you look like a different person, but because you recognize yourself in the mirror again.

"I can't thank Roxanna enough for rejuvenating my face. My friends and family tell me that I look twenty years younger. Walking into my 50s with a smile! Roxanna has a gentle hand and an eye for perfection."— Maria, first-time filler client

This was never about vanity. It's about feeling like yourself.

"Does it hurt?"

Most people describe it as mildly uncomfortable but very tolerable. I use a topical numbing cream, products that contain lidocaine, and a calm, unhurried pace to keep you comfortable. More often than not, people tell me it was easier than they expected.

Afterward, you might notice:

  • Mild swelling or tenderness
  • Some bruising, especially around the lips
  • Slight asymmetry while everything settles

This usually resolves within seven to ten days, and I'll walk you through aftercare and what to expect before you leave.

How long does it last?

Hyaluronic acid fillers generally last six to eighteen months, depending on the product, the area treated, and your own metabolism. Lips tend to metabolize faster, while deeper structural filler in the cheeks or chin can last longer.

I often recommend building gradually and refreshing once a year, so your results stay natural over time rather than changing all at once.

Is filler expensive?

Filler is priced per syringe and generally runs $600 to $900 depending on the product, with most areas needing one to two syringes.

It's an investment, and I'd rather be transparent about that from the start than surprise you at checkout. I don't upsell — I only ever recommend what you actually need for a result that looks natural.

Who's injecting me?

Every treatment is performed by me — Roxanna Barzegar, a dual-certified nurse practitioner who has been injecting professionally for years. I bring deep medical training, a calm bedside manner, and a sharp eye for natural proportion to every appointment, and I treat each one with the same precision and care.

That's the whole idea behind a personal injector: you see the same person every time, someone who knows your face and how it's changed.

Should I try filler?

Only you can answer that. But here's what I'd say.

If your face has started to feel like it no longer reflects how warm, confident, or alive you feel on the inside, filler can be a supportive step. I don't believe in fear-based selling or quick fixes. I believe in helping you feel more like yourself.

If you're curious but not sure where you'd even start, my 2-minute new client quiz is a low-pressure first step — and it earns you a $75 credit toward your first treatment.

If you'd like to talk it through, I offer free 15-min video consults where I'll answer your questions, look closely at your facial structure, and walk through what's possible. Sometimes I'll recommend filler. Other times I'll suggest skincare like a chemical peel, Botox or Dysport, or simply waiting. I'll always be honest with you, and I'll never do more than you need.

If any of this sounds like you, that's exactly the kind of conversation I welcome!
